The online Fashion Design Discovery Short Course is aimed at students who want to know more about Fashion Design or wish to possibly pursue studies in this field. Fashion design is presented through a mix of theoretical and practical short modules that will give you a clear overview of the industry, the positions and the skills required to succeed.

Course Objectives:

– Understand the structure of the fashion and textile industry from an international perspective as well as the strong link between fashion and culture
– Discover what it takes to be a fashion designer: The creative process
– Understand the power of communication behind the product: The fashion image
– Creation of a mini portfolio: Mood board / Silhouette / Collection Plan

Course Outcomes:

– Creation of a mini portfolio: Mood board / Silhouette / Collection Plan
– Creation of a basic pattern of a skirt
– Customization of garment

Course Structure

Day 1 (Morning): Fashion Culture – 3 hours

An introductory module to contemporary fashion that will include an overview of key designers, trends and fashion power houses to understand the most important creative movements

Day 1 Afternoon and Day 2: Collection process – 12 hours

This module will introduce students to the art of crafting a unique visual presentation through the development of inspiration boards

Day 3 and Day 4: Technical Process – 12 hours

A basic overview of collection development planning with the creation of 6 complete looks.

Day 5 (Morning): Final Presentation – 3 hours

Each participant will be asked to present the collections they have created.

What is not included in the fee:

  • Expenditures related with module specific materials (ex: purchase of fabrics, future boards…etc)
  • Printing and photocopying costs



  • Basic Knowledge of the Adobe Creative Suite (Particularly Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator)

Material required to follow the course:

  • A recent computer with a recent operating system
  • Adobe Creative Cloud
  • Color Pencils, Paint
  • Sketchbook
  • A good internet connection
  • An up-to-date web browser (it would be advisable to ensure you have access to two separate web browsers)
  • Microphone & Headphones (a headset with microphone/headphones is recommended)
  • Webcam
